PHA met with federal regulators on September 29, 2026, to urge that DEA's permanent rule on telemedicine prescribing of controlled medications be finalized on schedule and made workable. Physician, pharmacy and telehealth leaders described how the rule would operate from the telehealth visit to the filled prescription.

The seven changes PHA asked the Office of Management and Budget to make to DEA's permanent telemedicine prescribing rule, from a single national DEA registration to a 12-month compliance runway. Each reduces cost without removing a safeguard the rule relies on.
